Excel 2010 Viewer

If you have an Excel workbook to open but you don’t have Excel, don’t worry. There is a freely downloadable utility provided by Microsoft that enables you to open Excel files, even without having Excel installed. Enter Excel Viewer.

With Excel Viewer, you can open, view, and print Excel workbooks, however, you cannot edit data, save a workbook, or create a new workbook. This is a view only tool.

Installing Excel viewer is simple: download the file and then double click on it to run it. It’s a surprisingly large file (74.1MB), considering that the tool has only limited functionality. Follow the instructions to install it.

Using Excel Viewer

When you open Excel Viewer, you are immediately shown the File Open dialogue box, which you should use to locate your Excel workbook. Select it and click Open.

Excel Viewer has a stripped down version of the ribbon.
